My problem is called Antropology. So generic for bad.

I remember the first time I heard the story. I didn't believe it. Why would a man that owned a golf club let his son build a skateboard ramp on the property? Also, given that I knew how expensive it was just to build an 8' x 12" halfpipe made of plywood, I could not image how much money this unicorn would have cost. Plus, we lived in Fairfax, VIRGINIA! Who in the hell builds a ramp like that in Fairfax?! But, my best friend at the time was a bloodhound for skate spots and he wasn't wrong about CCCC. I remember finding other ramps with him too in Northern Virginia. Also the defunct, yet still standing Lansdowne (Sandy Hills) skatepark in Maryland. It was a daunting ramp, when you consider having only skated 8' half pipes prior. I think one of the Henderson ramps nearby-ish was 10', so I had that experience. But CC also had 22 inches of vert - with pool coping. Also intimidating was skillset on display and the pros that seemed always to have made the pilgrimage. Alva team seemed to live there in tents for a long stretch. And the 1/16" steel - if you didn't know how to bail, you had no business on that ramp. They used Coke to tackify the surface because most wheels slid all over the place. It didn't matter how early in the day I arrived, it was already populated. Unless you had skated pools or skateparks made of concrete, with lots of vert, you had no prior experience to prepare you for this ramp.

Shawn and Andy Wood were obviously kindred spirits.

Here’s the thing I love grindline parks and over the years they have gotten better about listening to all the skaters in the communities they serve but those early years they really didn’t do street or plaza type parks and a lot of kids wanted those things as they weren’t able to skate the street spots in their towns or the towns just really didn’t have any of that infrastructure, and the stuff they were building was gnarly and not a skill level most kids were at.

"it's best if we're left alone..." Yeah dude because all you want to build is big ass transition lol. I mean it's cool and all but what do kids in a park-less town? Ledges, banks, pads etcetera. I respect the hell out of skaters who skate big concrete transitions but some of the Oregon parks are all big ass bowls and shit, not near enough street

It's funny but my legacy lives on and is intertwined with this man that I never met. On I-5 North of the Columbia River exit 21 is the park that I got rolling and the silly thing is all started with the meeting with the superintendent of schools in woodland and I couldn't even go to that school because I would be arrested for trespassing which happens a couple times actually LOL I think I paid probably about two grand just because they hated me so much, but now the old police chief is gone there and harassing us and all that stuff well at least me cuz I move the hell away and I only ever got to skate my Park once at the old horseshoe. Skate or die Brothers and sisters, life is too short. In the meantime I still drive by there every day with about 100,000 lb of truck and food between Seattle and Portland so if you can't skate or die feed the people. o7 RIP Monk

Carbondale! That was the first time I lived in a town with a concrete skatepark. It does so much for a community to have someplace for kids to congregate.
